This past year, the Anderson Society selected the Tuscaloosa Public Library Foundation as its philanthropy partner — a choice that has already made a remarkable difference. Throughout the year, these students demonstrated consistent dedication to community service, volunteering with the Tuscaloosa Public Library at events such as the Druid City Arts Festival and supporting outreach efforts across the city.
On April 22, the Anderson Society welcomed the Foundation to its annual Gala, where members reflected on their personal experiences with the library and the role it played in their academic and personal growth. At the close of the evening, the students surprised the Foundation with an extraordinary gift: a $25,000 donation to support the library’s mission.
This contribution moves the Foundation significantly closer to its goal of replacing the library’s aging bookmobile — a vital outreach vehicle that brings books, technology, and learning opportunities to neighborhoods across Tuscaloosa County. The new bookmobile will expand access for children, seniors, and families who rely on library services but face barriers to transportation. Many students shared stories about growing up with the library, studying there during challenging semesters, or discovering resources that shaped their interests and careers. Their enthusiasm underscored how deeply the library’s impact is felt across the University of Alabama community.
These students are truly an asset to Tuscaloosa. Their generosity, leadership, and commitment to service reflect the very best of our community’s future. The Tuscaloosa Public Library Foundation is profoundly grateful for their support, and we are proud to partner with such thoughtful and engaged young leaders. We look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead.
