Half a Million Visits… and Counting!

If enthusiasm for the library could be measured in footsteps, we’d be shaking the sidewalks.

That’s because residents of Tuscaloosa City, County, and Northport make more than half a million visits to the library each year — both physical and electronic. Half a million! That’s enough people to fill Bryant‑Denny Stadium… and then some.

And these visits aren’t just quick pop‑ins. They’re families scooping up picture books, students hunting down research gold, adults downloading e‑books at red lights (we see you), and curious minds exploring our digital collections at all hours of the day.

Large group of children and their parents are sitting on the floor inside the main area of the Tuscaloosa Public Library. All of them are watching someone who is out of vision.
A large group of children and adults of various ages are sitting in rows, facing a staff member who is standing at a table, preparing a demonstration. Children in the front 5-6 rows are seated on the floor while those in the background are seated in chairs.

Every click, every checkout, every “Can you help me find…?” adds up to something bigger: a community that genuinely loves learning, reading, and staying connected.

So the next time you walk through our doors or log into your Libby app, know this — you’re part of a rhythm that beats half a million times a year. And we’re honored to be the place you return to again and again.

Here’s to the next 500,000 visits. We’ll keep the lights on.

There’s so much more to discover about the Tuscaloosa Public Library. Stay tuned — Beyond the Books will be sharing more soon.
